Bike theft in Burlington is a huge problem. Now that the college kids are back, itll probably get worse. There are ways to prevent it though. Dont leave your bike locked for long periods of time in a public space like this was. It’s locked to the bike rack outside of 60 Lake Street, the building Skinny Pancake is in. At home, lock your bike somewhere that isn’t visible from the street, like in the back yard. Even better if you can store it inside your house/apartment. If your building has a basement space for bikes, as one of mine did, still be careful. Bikes still get stolen from there.
I’ve had two bikes and just the tires stolen from me, like this poor bike. It sucks and ruins your day. If your bike does get stolen, report it to the police. Also tell all the bike shops in town like Ski Rack, North Star Sports, Old Spokes home and the like. Also post on Front Porch Forum and Facebook/Craigslist. Put a piece of paper with your contact info on it rolled up in the seat tube pipe. And register your bike, or at least keep its serial number, make and model somewhere you can access it.
Be safe!
